On the morning of June 29, Governor Zhu Xiaodan met with Mr. Li Ka-shing, Chairman of the Li Ka-shing Foundation at Shantou University, to discuss about the acceleration of GTIIT preparation work and artificial intelligence cooperation. Vice Governor Lan Fo'an, together with Secretary General of Guangdong Provincial Government Li Feng, Shantou Municipal Party Committee Secretary Chen Liangxian, Acting Mayor Liu Xiaotao, GTIIT Chancellor Li Jiange, Director of Li Ka-shing Foundation Selina Chou, STU Executive President Gu Peihua were present at the meeting.

Zhu appreciated Li's patriotism and the outstanding contribution for the development of STU and GTIIT preparation work. He also pointed out that building GTIIT is the "Number One Project" to promote sino-foreign cooperatively-run schools in Guangdong Province. The Provincial Party Committee and Government attach great importance to the construction of GTIIT. Since GTIIT (Prep.) was officially approved by MOE in April 2015, the school has made important progress in the implementation of rectification, funding, and campus construction. Zhu hoped that both parties can work together to further strengthen the GTIIT team, speed up campus construction and make sure that GTIIT will be formally established as scheduled. The Provincial Government will provide a strong guarantee for the construction of GTIIT.

Mr. Li Ka-shing was very grateful for the strong support of Guangdong Provincial Party Committee and Government for the GTIIT preparation work. He said that he would actively cooperate with Guangdong Province to accelerate the formal establishment of GTIIT, and provide talent and technical support for the development, transformation and upgrading of economy and society in Guangdong.
