Shantou is planning to establish a national exemplary high school and an international school in the Overseas Chinese Economic and Cultural Cooperation Experimental Zone. Two schools will cooperate in running schools and achieve the sharing of educational resources. On April 9, the expert review meeting of school architecture design was held in Shantou. Experts from inside and outside Guangdong Province evaluated the designs on site and finalized the winner.

The selected site for the schools locates in Block D, Xinjin Area, East Coast New City in the Overseas Chinese Economic and Cultural Cooperation Experimental Zone, with a total area of 134.9 mu, among which 104.9 mu is used for the planning of national exemplary high school. The school will adopt the public high school model (include boarding). Shantou Jinshan High School will be responsible for running the school and set up another campus by the bay. The other 30 mu will be used for building the international school.

Shantou Jinshan High School is one of the 17 provincial key high schools in Guangdong Province. It was originally Chaozhou Jinshan Academy, built in 1877 (third year of Emperor Guangxu of Qing Dynasty) and was moved from Chaozhou to Shantou in 1952. The school enjoys the title of "Highest Educational Institution in eastern Guangdong" for a long time thanks to its long history, large scale, advanced facilities and strong teaching team. The design of the school architecture is required to continue its architectural style.

The Shantou Municipal Party Committee and the municipal government attached great importance to the design contest by organizing leading groups and preparing work plan. After several sessions, such as publishing contest announcement, accepting applicants, selecting participating organizations, issuing contest documents, inspecting premises, Q&A etc., all participating organizations have submitted all required documents. The Expert Review Committee carried out the evaluation independently and objectively and selected the winning design based on the Assessment Methods of the Contest Document.
