One of Israel's great leaders, former State President Peres passed away at the age of 93 at Israeli time 5 am, September 28. Mr. Peres was president from 2007 to 2014 and committed to promoting the peace in the Middle East. He was awarded the Boigny Peace Prize by the UNESCO in 1993 and honored the Nobel Peace Prize in 1994. Mr. Peres visited China for many times and expressed his love to the Chinese culture. He also put in great effort in the Sino-Israeli cooperation.
Mr. Peres had a special tie with Shantou. On December?16th, 2015, Mr. Peres came a long way from Israel to Shantou to attend the launching ceremony of Guangdong Technion-Israel Institute of Technology and this was the 6th?time he visited China.

After the launching ceremony, Mr. Peres gave a speech to express his expectation to GTIIT, and his confidence to the cooperation of China and Israel.
He said: "I know many Chinese friends who have common belief with their foreign counterparts, we should be full of confidence toward future, we should have sense of optimism, and we should be held accountable to our offspring. Today's technology not only enables us to find better 'machine', but also makes human more noble-minded and virtuous, and creates a more inhabitable world, GTIIT is a great miracle in Shantou City, which is a miracle of joint efforts of Chinese and Israeli fellows, we're respecting and loving each other, we hope a better world in the future, and this land is grand, so let me express my best wish for all of us, for successful cooperation, and I hope GTIIT to be a great success, which I'm fully confident and convinced to become true."
And then, Mr. Peres released the news of GTIIT launching ceremony on his micro-blog.
In the afternoon of December 16th 2016, Mr. Peres attended the summit dialogue named "Innovation and the Future of Education".

At present, the education cooperation Mr. Peres valued has bear fruit in Shantou. With the progress of GTIIT preparatory work, the relations between Chinese and Israel will become more and more closer.
