The first board meeting after GTIIT's formal establishment was held on December 8, before which a press interview was conducted with Pro. Perez Lavie, Chairman of the board & Chancellor of the Technion, and Mr. Li Jiange, Chancellor of GTIIT. Speaking of the future of GTIIT, both chancellors expressed their determination and confidence in establishing GTIIT as a top institute of science and engineering in China.

"This was a dream. Though most of my dreams didn't come true, the one of GTIIT has come true." Pro. Lavie used "dream comes true" to express his excitement and also thanked all the parties that have made great efforts for GTIIT's formal establishment. He said he felt very happy and excited. The approval of GTIIT's formal establishment is a vital moment to the Technion, Shantou University (STU), Shantou City, and Guangdong Province. He said, "Without Li Ka-Shing Foundation, nothing would be possible. In the autumn of next year, GTIIT will welcome the first students and I believe in the near future GTIIT will become a top institute of science and engineering in Guangdong and even China."

According to Pro. Lavie's introduction, at the initial stage, three programs will be provided in GTIIT: Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology and Food Engineering, Materials Engineering, and new programs will be added on this basis annually. Pro. Lavie said, "We will select the best students, who will study in English. The Technion has started to recruit faculty globally, who will be the common resources for GTIIT and the Technion. Some professors will have labs both in Shantou and Haifa. The Technion will introduce the innovation and entrepreneurship of Israel into Shantou and achieve a win-win situation through academic and student exchanges with GTIIT and STU. "

Lavie thinks GTIIT is not only a bridge between Shantou and Haifa, but also a bridge between China and Israel, and he hopes in the future both parties will share more excellent resources in education, research, and culture, and have more innovative achievements based on the cooperation.

Li Jiange told the journalists that GTIIT's formal establishment is the result of the great efforts made by the Provincial Party Committee and Government, the Municipal Party Committee and Government, Li Ka-Shing Foundation, the Techinion, and STU. With the coming of student recruitment in 2017, he was keenly aware of the great responsibility and also felt confident in the future recruitment and schooling due to all parties' support.

"Application for the formal establishment was a difficult way but there will be more difficulties to be tackled after it. The present ones include student and faculty recruitment, regular operation of GTIIT, standardization of system establishment, and so on," said Li Jiange. He was keenly aware of the great responsibility but felt confident in the future recruitment and schooling with the support of Provincial and Municipal Party Committee and Government. "we have confidence in establishing GTIIT as a top institute of technology in China and welcome all excellent students from Guangdong Province as well as other places in China to apply for it."
