On the morning of March 1, Municipal Party Secretary Chen Liangxian had a meeting with Vice Chancellor Aaron Ciechanove, Nobel laureate, with their focus on establishing GTIIT as an international high-level institute of science and engineering.

At the meeting, Chen Liangxian extended his warm welcome to Pro. Aaron Ciechanover and expressed his appreciation for all efforts Pro. Aaron Ciechanover had made to promote the establishment of GTIIT, which was followed with a brief introduction of the social and economic development in Shantou. He pointed out that since last year, with an aim to promote the construction and development of GTIIT, Shantocu government has attached great importance to the improvement of GTIIT's surrounding environment and supporting facilities. So far, the university construction goes smoothly.

Chen Liangxian said that both the municipal Party committee and the government will continue to provide timely support and high-quality service for the construction of GTIIT and do their utmost to create an international and convenient living environment for GTIIT's faculty and students. He expressed his hope that Pro. Aaron Ciechanover will establish GTIIT as an internationally recognized high-level research-based university by taking full advantage of his advanced management philosophy and social resources to introduce both international first-rate faculty and state-of-the-art school-running patterns.

Aaron Ciechanover expressed his appreciation for the efforts made by the municipal party committee and the government in promoting the construction of GTIIT efficiently. He also said that presently both education arrangements and faculty introduction are going smoothly for the coming semester, and hoped that Shantou will provide great support in medical service, children education, and language communication so that more top science talents and industries will be attracted in Shantou to boost better development of this city.

Deputy Mayor Lin Yimin and Dr. Moshe Marom, Vice President & Director General of GTIIT, also attended the meeting.
