On March 18, Chancellor Li Jiange of GTIIT was invited to attend China Development Forum 2017 which was hosted by the Development Research Center of the State Council, and delivered a speech on Educational Challenge and Innovation in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.
China Development Forum 2017 is the first state-level international forum following the two sessions (NPC & CPPCC) this year, which is a significant platform for the dialogue among Chinese senior leaderships, global business leaderships, international organizations and scholars. This year's Forum is titled as China and the World: Economic Transition and Structural Reform.
During the speech, Chancellor Li Jiange made an introduction of GTIIT's establishment background, construction progress and future vision, and emphasized that in combination with the development of artificial intelligence, China should change the traditional education philosophy and take Israel education pattern as reference to cultivate students' innovation. He especially mentioned the concept, Chutzpah, which means fearless spirit, and further explained that the current education reform ought to keep up with the times and aim to develop students as innovative thinkers who are not blinded by prejudice and have the courage to challenge authority.
With respect to whether artificial intelligence will challenge traditional education, Chancellor Li said that artificial intelligence should be well utilized to optimize the education pattern and in the future, AI(Artificial Intelligence) plus HI(Human Intelligence)will be equal to SI(Super Intelligence. SI will not pose threats to human beings, which, instead, will bring more opportunities and permanently belong to human beings.
Li Jiange, as Chancellor of a Sino-foreign university, believed that in the era of AI, students of GTIIT are supposed to get well-prepared for the great development of science technology and the rapid transition of mechanism by mastering their majors and acquiring knowledge of different fields. Students should also attach importance to lifelong learning, be aware of the future dramatic industrial transformation, and have good preparation in mentality and competency for career transition at different life stages.
Zhang Lei, Chairman of Hillhouse Capital, hosted the discussion. Guests that joined in the discussion include Peter Salovey, President of Yale University, Dominic Barton, Chairman & global CEO of McKinsey Company, Liu Zunyi, chair professor of Chinese University of HK, and RolandBerger, CEO of Charles-Edouard?Bouée.?
