Aaron Ciechanover, Vice Chancellor of GTIIT and the 2004 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, had a live discussion with students from?Guangdong Experimental High School on May 7.
During the info section, Aaron Ciechanover shared his life experience, especially his student life and the latest development of his field. What he particularly suggested students, was to follow their hearts instead of flowing with trends or depending too much on teachers and parents, and to love thinking, questioning and expressing themselves, just like the determined and pragmatic Israelis. For him, scientists are not only supposed to answer questions, but also to find out problems, ask questions and then come up with solutions. He encouraged students to find out what is their passion and explore it.

During the Q&A section, Professor Aaron Ciechanover gave credits to the questions asked by students--
?
Q: What is chemistry?
A: Chemistry is everything. All disciplines are interdependent.
?
Q: If we replace bad genes with good ones, will the person going through genes replacement remain the same person?
A: Good genes are not necessarily extracted from others. They could be invented in labs. Therefore, “I” am still who “I” am. Scientific advancement can both be good and bad. One typical example is the invention of dynamite. Science also has ethic problems. Scientists should adhere to ethical principles and conscientiousness.

Students from Guangdong Experimental High School generally perform well academically. They had no difficulty in communicating in English. Professor Aaron Ciechanover praised them by saying "They asked good questions and they even don't know how good their questions are."
Professor Aaron Ciechanover said, his job in Guangdong, China, was not just to deliver knowledge, but to introduce Israeli culture and innovative thinking. He had a high expectation on the future of Chinese students.?

Guangdong Experimental High School is a prestigious high school with over a century of history, and the first batch of State-level Demonstration Senior High School and the National Civilized Units. Students in Guangdong Experimental High School rank the top in Gaokao in Guangdong Province.?

GTIIT Vice Chancellor Feng Xinglei and Guangdong Experimental High School Principal Quan Hanyan exchanged souvenirs.
