Israeli scientists from Guangdong Technion Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT) are visiting high schools in Guangdong Province recently. Students and teachers are happy about the lectures for they have provided students with the opportunities to communicate with prestigious scientists face-to-face. These meaningful lectures not only satisfy students' desire to learn, but also inspire students to explore the unknown, commented by some teachers from high schools.

From April 26th to 28th , Guangdong Technion Israel Institute of Technology launched the Science and Technology Lecture Series in Jiedong No.1 High School, Puning No.2 High School and Chenghai High School. Ori Lahav, professor of Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, delivered lectures on Seawater Reverse Osmosis(SWRO).
At Jiedong No.1 High School, Professor Ori Lahav introduced his latest researches on seawater desalination treatment and further explained that such treatment is crucially related to the sustainable development of mankind. According to Professor Ori Lahav, water on earth is around 1.36 billion cubic kilometers, and 2.8% of it is fresh water. But only 0.23% of the fresh water can satisfy the need of people. On the other hand, seawater is relatively abundant and contains lots of microelements needed by human. Therefore, if seawater can be fully taken advantages of, the consumption of human will be greatly satisfied. At present, seawater desalination is the best solution to water shortage. However, the currently widely-applied Seawater Reverse Osmosis is quite expensive. As a guru in Seawater Reverse Osmosis and the current the head of the Grand Water Institute at the Technion, Professor Ori Lahav delivered the abstruse knowledge vividly, which won the warm applause from students.

The lecture in Puning No.2 High School was lively. Students were so crowded that even some students had to stand on the corridor. They actively raised their questions and one of the students asked, "if we were going to desalinate seawater, would it affect the ecosystem of the ocean?" Professor Ori Lahav answered the question concretely. He showed how the Seawater Reverse Osmosis(SWRO) worked and how to minimize the disturbance towards the ocean, which shows the charm of cutting-edge technology. Students' awareness of ocean protection impressed Professor Ori Lahav, he praised them as "fantastic students." After the lecture, students came to Professor Ori Lahav to get his signatures on their notebooks. Profess Ori Lahav joked himself as a "rock star!"

At the century-old Chenghai High School, the speech of Professor Ori Lahav won round applause and students queued to get his signatures.

Guangdong Technion Israel Institute of Technology is the first Sino-Israeli polytechnic university introducing quality educational resources from Israel. Its construction has been fully supported by People's Government of Guangdong Province, People's Government of Shantou and Li Ka-Shing Foundation. The enrollment of GTIIT will start this year. And the undergraduate programs are Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology and Food Engineering, and Materials Engineering.
