Two Years to Design GTIIT Badge
?
“It was designed by our consultancy: CastroNawy. It was designed over the course of nearly two years and was completed in February of 2016.”said Guy Nawy, the Israeli designer.
?
Guy said, after a mapping of academic institutions in China and the world as well as Technion global brand logic, they concluded that a crest composed of three component emblems (Technion, Shantou University and Shantou), would best serve the institution.
?
When you look at the badge carefully, you will find that the GTIIT badge has represented the cultural origins of the three parties and their cooperation: the Hebrew character “Tet” is a symbol of Technion, the red buttercups for Shantou while the phoenix for Shantou University.
?
?
" Forms were simplified," Guy explained, and the colors were adjusted for harmony. The five pointed Chinese star and the six pointed star of David punctuate the typography at the perimeter. ?The date of constitution was incorporated.

When it comes to design inspiration, Guy admitted:" It is difficult to put a finger on inspiration but I would say that we were very excited by the cultural confluence and potential of this wonderful new university. It was quickly understood that instead of creating a mould into which everything must fit, we need to keep component identities and assemble a winning collective. We also wanted the new construct to have some dialogue with the Technion global brand. Perhaps most importantly, we felt it critical that balance not be empirically symmetrical. It is not an absolutely ordered mark, nor is it a chaotic one… and that is a place the imagination likes best."

The Diameter of GTIIT Badge Is 4-meter Long
?
Since the GTIIT badge has been hung on the 20-meter-high administrative building in the North Campus, it has attracted eyeballs of passerby.
?
According to Manager Huang from Guangdong No.2 Constructions Engineering Company, the diameter of GTIIT badge is 4-meter-long, made of aluminium alloy plate and painted with metallic paint which is free from fading. As the badge is quite large, the badge was divided into four parts before hanging on the wall. Thanks to the cutting-edge technology, the badge was seamless even when the workers looked at them right after finishing assembling,
?
?
?
The administrative building of GTIIT was constructed by steel, which was a great help for assembling the badge – workers can easily hung the badge on the structure of the administrative building, stably.
