Dr. Eliezer Shalev dressed modest and he is amiable. With a few humorous sentences, he made the interview alive. Yet when it came to the academic affairs of GTIIT, Dr. Shalev is rigorous - he concisely and accurately to sum up the complicated academic affairs and the goal of GTIIT--

GTIIT Inherited Technion's Teaching Models

?

GTIIT has three semesters every year, in line with Technion's standards. Students will experience innovative global teaching and learning models. The preparation period including the orientation days will last for 6 weeks; GTIIT will deliver courses like English, Physics and Math focusing on communication skills. Eliezer Shalev said:"Students are from different high schools and not at the same level with each other. We want to close the gap and make them reach certain knowledge level that will be compatible for the Technion demands and learning and teaching methods. Sliding easily into the first days in 'foreign University'."

?

During the preparation period, all students will study the same courses, while in formal semester; they will be divided into three undergraduate programs, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology and Food Engineering and Materials Engineering.

??

During the formal semester, students will have to study rigoriously, since GTIIT will follow Technion's teaching standards. "At the end, students will need to reach Technion graduates level. We expect them to be good engineers, researchers and innovators." said Eliezer Shalev.

GTIIT Emphasized on Students' Curiosity

?

"I met quite a lot of Chinese students; they are excellent, knowledgeable and good at studying. They need to learn how to express their questions. Don't be afraid of expressing their curiosity. Memorizing is not enough. Knowledge is important, but combination of curiosity and knowledge will be better. Being curious is the philosophy of Technion - asking questions and finding out solutions, instead of waiting for answers," when asked what was the most emphasized quality for students, Eliezer Shalev answered:" Curiosity bears the fruit of innovation. Curiosity is the key to solve problems, a must and not trivial."

?

Eliezer Shalev continued," Researches start from curiosity, just like education comes from knowledge, say, 'how can I solve the problems?' and then we design researches to sole them. For example, we may ask the question of how to treat water contamination. Then, we come up with the ideas of using new ideas that has not been tested while figuring out the mechanism. "

GTIIT Has the First-class Faculty

?

GTIIT focused on cultivating industrial talents. To reach the goal, first-class faculty is necessary. At present, over 1000 applicants have sent their resumes to GTIIT, "We sifted out the best 50 scientists to enter the final round of interview, among whom over 20 will be deployed to our three undergraduate programs. We do not emphasize the number of the faculty but their level of teaching and research." Eliezer Shalevsai," The faculty needs to meet certain criteria, like doing good research, publishing their results in good journals, being good teachers for both undergraduates and graduates students, and so on."
