Xiangyuan Piano Museum, located at No. 155 Road Jingping District, used to be a private villa of a rich Chaoshan businessman. After 90 years of vicissitudes, Xiangyuan now was restored and turned into a piano museum. Xiangyuan is a perfect combination of Chinese and western architecture, reflecting the prosperity and culture in Chaoshan region.

Last night, GTIIT faculty and staff were invited by Xiangyuan Piano Museum to visit there and attend the awesome classical piano concert performed by Liyan He, a Hong Kong pianist who was hailed as "the young talent from the far east". Well-decorated corridors, exquisite folding screens, elegant Chandelier lamps … are confluence of Chinese and western cultures, giving visitors a glance of prosperity and openness of Shantou, which turns out to be part of Chaoshan culture. Later, the museum was filled with beautiful classical music, impressive and memorable.

Mr. Liyan He played J.S. Bach Partita in G Major No.5, Beethoven Sonata in f minor Appassionata No. 23, and works by Chopin, etc. The fascinating music sometimes was soft while sometimes was hard and exciting. The superb skills of Mr. He amazed the audience, who were intoxicated into the music.

Concert Pianist Mr. Liyan He:

The owner of Xiangyuan, Mr. Norman Lee, who's also a well-known pianist, creates such a platform to bring classical music to everyone. He invites outstanding musicians from China and beyond to perform in Xiangyuan, therefore I am here. I had been learning piano from Yin Chengzong at his ancestral house in Gulangyu, Xiamen. I lived there for a longtime. The style and age of Yin's house is similar to that of Xiangyuan, so I feel familiar with here. Though there are glaring differences between Chinese culture and western culture, learning from each other and cooperative spirits has been lasting, and they are what we call "unity".

Environmental Engineering Professor Tjalfe Gorm Poulsen:

I like this building and the concert. The building was carefully crafted and it is very nice that the descendent of the villa restored it. I like classical music and enjoy going to concert. The concert has enriched our lives and I appreciated that. If we had chance in the future, I would come again.
