China Development Forum (CDF) 2018 Was Open in Beijing

Li Jian'ge, Chancellor of GTIIT host the "Knowledge Capital and Development for All" session


The annual session of China Development Forum (CDF) 2018 hosted by the Development Research Center of the State Council of China was opened in Beijing today.

With "China in the New Era" as its theme, this year's CDF will address key topical issues, including high-quality development, fiscal and tax systems reform, supply-side structural reform and financial policies, opening-up on all fronts. 2018 marks the first year of implementing the guiding principles of the 19th CPC National Congress and the 40th anniversary of China's Reform and Opening-up policy. Therefore, CDF this year has drawn widespread international attention.


China Development Forum (CDF) has profound influence. Development Research Center of the State Council of China told the media, over 60 Chinese delegates are provincial minister-level officials and over 80 guests out of 120 international delegates are leaders from Fortune Global 500. CDF also invited nearly 30 prestigious scholars, 7 of whom are Nobel Prize laureates in Economics. Li Keqiang, Premier of the State Council, will meet with international delegates. Han Zheng, Vice Premier of the State Council, will deliver a keynote speech on the opening ceremony.


This afternoon, Li Jian'ge, Chancellor of GTIIT host the "Knowledge Capital and Development for All" session and had an in-depth discussion with Peter Salovey, President of Yale University; Stephen J. Toope, Vice-Chancellor of Cambridge University; Ludger Woessmann, Professor of University of Munichand Director of IFO Center for the Economics of Education; and Lawrence Juen-Yee LAU, Ralph and Claire Landau Professor of Economics from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

At the beginning of the session, Mr. Li Jian'ge first introduced GTIIT to guests and scholars in the hall and then talked over issues on the theme of "Knowledge Capital and Development for All" with four guest speakers. Stephen J. Toope, Vice-Chancellor of Cambridge University, emphasized the inclusiveness and openness of universities. Peter Salovey, President of Yale University, believed that universities, born with social responsibilities, shall closely connected with society and translate their research fruits into social benefits. Education is knowledge capital which is closely linked with economic prosperity and efficiency, said Ludger Woessmann, Professor of University of Munichand Director of IFO Center for the Economics of Education. While Lawrence Juen-Yee LAU, Professor from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, analyzed the importance of knowledge capital from economic perspectives. The racing ideas and witty remarks won big hands around the hall. Coincidently, Professor Peter Salovey's father had been a visiting professor in Chemical Engineering in Technion.


At the end of the session, Li Jian'ge specially mentioned that, GTIIT which lays great emphasis on inclusiveness and openness, has a vision of making contributions to the social well-being with cultivation of scientific & technological talents and translation of research results.
